On Østerbrogade in Copenhagen, a new hybrid building is taking shape, showcasing how close collaboration, innovative product development, and precise coordination can overcome the challenges of building on a tight urban site.
The six-storey project includes 20 student apartments and a café, bringing together living spaces and shared community functions within a compact footprint.
The collaboration
“Peikko’s solutions align perfectly with the CREE concept, supporting our ambition to build smarter and faster,” says Frederik Spanning, Managing Director of CREE Denmark. “For Østerbrogade 190, the DELTABEAM® beams were designed with a higher level of prefabrication and detailing than usual, enabling a fast installation process. At the same time, this significantly reduced the amount of follow-on work required on site.” Frederik added.
Our solutions
Østerbrogade 190 is a striking hybrid structure combining steel, concrete, and timber. While Peikko’s beams are concealed within the structure, the interaction between timber and concrete contributes to the building’s robust and architectural expression.
For this project, we supplied six DELTABEAM® Green beams. Although this may sound modest, the solution was anything but standard. At CREE Denmark’s request, the beams were delivered fully cast directly from the factory to minimise on-site concreting. They were produced with carefully integrated details, including welded formwork tailored to the slabs, integrated sleeves for erection pins, and welded shear studs – all designed to streamline installation and reduce work on site. In addition, we supplied angles and brackets to support a smooth and efficient assembly process.
